Frosted Formal Basketball

Monday-Friday, from the 5th to the 9th, ASB is kicking off the New Year by hosting a school-wide "Frozen week" in the theme of winter and the Frosted Formal taking place this Friday. As sports go, we have a week full of basketball to prepare for the Frozen dance.

BasketballStockImage.jpgOn Wednesday, boys frosh basketball has a game a 5:30pm while the JV boys play directly afterwards at 7pm against Canyon Crest High School. Come out with friends and family to witness another Boys Basketball success as both teams improve their record with another win for both.

A school assemble will be held tomorrow during SCHS's advisory period, so make sure to spread the news at a time when everyone is gathered together.

To continue the flow, Girls Basketball has one more game Friday just before our Frosted Formal takes place. Come out and give your full support to those girls as they grind in for another win as well.

The last game of the week, ends with the Boys finishing out their tournament on Catalina. Thanks to Mrs. Evans, the dance was moved a multitude of times so that not only does it no longer interfere with any of the actual basketball games, it free up all the more students to come out and give their support.

Come out and cheer for SCHS Basketball, girls and boys alike! And don't forget to keep up with Sage Creek's "Frosted Spirit Days" because the big event on Friday is sure to be a blast for everyone there.

Basketball Tryouts

For those that do not know, the SCHS Basketball program as a whole, has been working very hard for the past nine weeks to improve their bodies and mindsets prior to their upcoming season beginning officially at Tryouts a couple weeks from now. Two tryouts for the Sage Creek High School boys basketball team will be held on Saturday, November 15th from 8-10 AM and the following Monday, November 17th from 5-7 PM.

It is recommended that any who wish to be a part of this growing program attend both tryouts, not singly one or the other. Even students who have not attended a single conditioning session or open gym over the past 9 weeks with the basketball coaching staff stand a good chance of making boys Freshman or boys Junior Varsity ball, provided they have been keeping up with their game.

Both the coaching staff, namely the Head Coach, Sam Eshelman, in addition to all the currently returning players, welcome all new basketball athletes with open arms to Tryouts and hopefully into the family they have started.

If you are a girl and wish to tryout for the dually fantastic SCHS girls basketball program, Tryouts will be held on the same days, but from 10 AM-12PM on the 15th and 3-5 PM on the 17th.

All tryouts are scheduled to take place in the SCHS Bobcat Arena.

Lastly, DO NOT FORGET, in order to tryout for a team at Sage Creek student-athletes must fully complete an Athletic Packet. The Athletic Packet will be collected on November 12th and 13th in the main office before school, at lunch, and after school until 3:30. Athletes will need to collect their clearance card from the Athletic Director's office after school on Friday, November 14th.

To all those trying out for basketball as well as Sage Creek's other Winter sports, good luck and we are glad to have you!

CIF Championships

Here is a countdown clock to the start of the CIF Championships in San Diego. CIF stands for California Interscholastic Federation and they are 100% committed to developing student athletes of character. You can reach there website here or here. Once a year, The California Interscholastic Federation is the governing body for high school sports in the state of California. CIF membership includes both public and private high schools. Unlike most other state organizations, it does not have a single, state-wide championships for all sports; instead, for some sports, the CIF's 10 Sections each have their own championships.

The purpose of this post is to raise awareness for Cross Country because, for their second year in a row, several students will be selected from the Sage Creek High School Cross Country team to run in the CIF Championship. All athletes lucky enough to be on their school's varsity team compete in CIF sectionals (the equivalent of districts in other states) to qualify for CIF State Championships. Since this year, just like the first year at SCHS, only Cross Country is participating at Varsity they are the only ones competing this year.

Next year, 2015-2016, the majority of remaining SCHS sports will make their way to Varsity but until then, everyone be sure to congratulate and support Cross Country and acknowledge their crazy efforts this year when you get the chance.

A Shout-Out to SC Athletics

This post is a shout-out to all the teams prepping for their upcoming seasons in the winter as well as all the teams who continue to work hard as their seasons draw to a close. The end to the fall trimester at Sage Creek on Friday, November 21 will mark the end of one great period for the school's second year and the beginning of another. Everyday, cross country, girls volleyball, field-hockey, and girls tennis can be seen working hard to get better in their respective playing grounds and it is truly awesome to see how much they care about their teams and their school.

Most of Sage Creek's athletic groups have or will be starting up their second teams this year as well. Most sports teams plan on playing with both a Freshman and Junior Varsity level while several, such as girl's volleyball, opted to go straight to JV and Varsity. Doing this gives them a tremendous leap in their growth because, even while struggling against players that start as seniors, being sophomores they are only getting better from this great experience.

Boy's basketball, boy's baseball, and wrestling are three teams that deserve special props though. For almost two months now, these three teams have been especially hard at work getting conditioned on the track and in the weight room for their respective seasons. It is awesome to watch them improve on a daily basis by getting stronger and faster, and by building better relationships within their team families.

SC Volleyball

Before Sage Creek High School even officially opened, everyone planning on attending the school knew right away that our biggest competition would be Carlsbad High School. Although CHS and Sage Creek work together to see what works best for all their combined students, neither can help but wanting to prove to the other that they have the basis for being better in sports, GPAs, or extracurricular activities.

Right now, the Sage Creek High School volleyball team is making its rounds and proving its worth all around the county, going from tournament to tournament. Despite how exciting this seems to everyone, the volleyball team especially, nobody has been looking forward to these games as much as the first Sage Creek vs. Carlsbad game of the year.

The entire SCHS basketball program, both Freshman and JV players along with their respective coaches have elected to make it a team event by trying to get everyone on the team to the game to support Sage Creek.

Hopefully their will be a fantastic turnout of not only basketball team members but a majority of SCHS students and faculty as well.

The game is two weeks from now on Thursday, October 9th in the gymnasium at Sage Creek High School. We hope to see you there!

Change in Sponsor

This year, Sage Creek High School has resigned in its athletic partnership with Nike and has elected to enter into a new contract with Under Armour.

In doing this, Sage Creek Athletes are highly requested, not forced, to wear and use attire and equipment only displaying Under Armour brands. For a large portion of students at Sage Creek, this presents an inconvenience because many students are either particularly fond of Nike or elect to wear it because it is simply just a very popular, therefore it is the only sports brand they use.

As a result of this, the switch to Under Armour has left many students feeling agitated because normally while participating in athletic activities and games they would wear Nike attire, now they are requested to wear only Under Armour.

On the contrary though, Under Armour is highly respected by millions worldwide just as much as Nike. Professional Athletes like US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, basketball superstar Brandon Jennings, and NFL champion Tom Brady, all utilize equipment and clothing sporting Under Armour brands.

So, what do readers think? Specifically students attending Sage Creek High School; will students embrace the change in athletic sponsors or abhor it?

SCHS Opening Fall Season

Today is the first day of Autumn and with the change in season comes the arrival of Sage Creek High School's second year of High School Athletes as well.

This Fall, Sage Creek is again hosting a superb cross-country team, who were the second runners up in the CIF Division their first year at SCHS in 2013, as well as girls volleyball, golf, tennis, and field hockey.

The Fall coaches include Coach Jacob Feiring, Coach Analia Carlsson, Coach David Walther (also a father of incoming Freshman, JV point guard, Jack Walther), Coach Jill Kenny, and Coach Frohman-Flibott respectively.

With all of these fantastic Coaches and the added benefit the incoming Freshman of Sage Creek will undoubtedly offer their respective teams, SCHS is preparing for a great Fall season involving the entire Athletics Program.

All team schedules and additional information concerning specifics on each Fall team, including background and contact information for the coaching staff, can be found on the Sage Creek Website by  clicking on Athletics in the green bar at the top of the page. From there, it is easy to find and access pages on all SCHS Fall sports as well as those taking place during the Winter and Spring.
